Andy & Lisa Simpson – Taiwan

In 1972, at age eight, a friend invited me to attend church. As a result of the Sunday school and gospel preaching, I realized that I was a sinner and called upon Jesus Christ to be my Lord and Savior. Shortly afterwards I was baptized and continued to grow and serve the Lord.

As a senior in a public high school the Holy Spirit spoke to me through God’s word and the testimony of missionaries that often came to our church. After prayer and counsel with my pastor, I surrendered my life to the Lord’s call to be a missionary. Upon graduating from high school, I attended Atlantic Baptist Bible College in Chesterfield, VA and during a college mission conference, the Lord burdened me preach the gospel in Taiwan.

After completing Bible college in 1985, Lisa and I were married and began serving an internship under Pastor John Brothers at Gill Grove Baptist Church in Chesterfield, Va. Then in 1990 we returned to our home church, Bethlehem Baptist Church (Pastor Ben Sanders) in Fairfax, VA in final preparation for deputation. After a little more than two years of deputation, we arrived in Taiwan on October 11, 1993 and began learning Mandarin Chinese and assisting missionaries on the field.

In 1995 we helped fellow missionaries, Dave and Terri Green, start Daya Bible Baptist Church in Taichung. In 1997, the Lord led us to start Lighthouse Baptist Church in the newly developing Nantun district of Taichung. Then in 2005 after fellow missionary, Malcom Feistel, passed away with colon cancer, we took over the ministry he had started at Dali Faith Baptist Church. We continue to serve at Lighthouse and Dali Faith Baptist with the goal that for them to be indigenous churches pastored by nationals.
