Ben & Ashli Baucam – Hong Kong

We’re the Baucums:
Ben had the great privilege of growing up in China, raised by faithful missionaries. He speaks both Cantonese and Mandarin Chinese.
He completed an internship through the Chinese ministry of Liberty Baptist Church in Newport Beach, CA while attending West Coast Baptist College, where he graduated in 2011.
Ben and Ashli met at LBC and were married in 2013. They served in various ministries and had the special opportunity to lead a Chinese college ministry in Santa Ana, CA.
God moved them to Pensacola, FL and in 2015 they completely surrendered to God’s will, wherever that might lead. By 2016, they prayed, “Lord, if you want us in full-time ministry, put us there”.
Within a few months, Pastor Mike Brown (unaware of their specific prayer for ministry) invited Ben to join the pastoral staff of West Florida Baptist Church in Milton, FL. With excitement and prayer, Ben accepted the Assistant Pastor position.
Over the next 6 years in Milton, FL, the Lord blessed their family with four precious children.
In October 2021, with WFBC thriving, the Baucums attended a family missions conference in California. They left those meetings with a question resonating in their hearts:
“There are Christians ready to take our place in Florida. Who will take our place in China?”
God has opened an incredibly specific door for our family to spread the Gospel and train leadership in Hong Kong. China truly is white unto harvest with a 1.4 billion Chinese population.
As a missionary kid, born in Hong Kong and raised in mainland China, I speak Mandarin Chinese and elementary-level Cantonese Chinese. After graduating West Coast Bible College and serving as assistant pastor of West Florida Baptist Church in Milton, FL for 6 years, God began prompting me and my wife Ashli into missions. We asked God to open the door if He wanted us there.
In April 2023, my wife and I visited with a small group of believers in Yuen Long, Hong Kong. This Chinese-speaking church has been without a pastor for 2 years and has struggled to find leadership. This is a common problem within the Christian community in Hong Kong for several reasons, namely: lack of Biblical leadership training and political pressures pushing native Hong Kongers out of their country.
We visited with Lighthouse Baptist Church in Yuen Long for 5 days. After much prayer and counseling, we accepted their invitation to become the pastor and missionary for this church body.
What an incredible setup we’ve been given to spread the Gospel in Yuen Long, Hong Kong! While the church can’t fully support a pastor, they’re a group of 30 solid believers with a heart ready and eager to reach their city.
Our objective in Hong Kong will be:
  • to lead Lighthouse Baptist Church in personal spiritual growth through discipleship, partnering together to spread the Gospel,
  • to operate weekly outreach programs in Yuen Long,
  • to prayerfully accept opportunities to train future leadership for Lighthouse and new church plants in both Hong Kong and mainland China.
